School4SriLanka is a competition being held in Utrecht to raise funds to help under priviledged children in Sri Lanka. Rotary Club Utrecht International is running a project to raise money for the children of low income families in Sri Lanka to ensure they have the stationery they need for their schooling. The Rotary Club of Kegalle, Sri Lanka is the organisation who will receive the funds we raise through this competition and ensure that the money is used to benefit these children. Horizon Holland Foundation are doing separate projects to raise money for the same purpose.

The 2010-2011 School4SriLanka competition has been amazingly successful raising a total of 2578 Euro. Well done and a big thanks to USG and TomTom for their great efforts and sponsorship. A special congratulations to Jochem de Kort, Fréderique de Rooij, Barend Spanjers and Simone Dobbelaar for winning the Rotary Club Utrecht International special choice award. The class 4D raised the most money with their proposal to run a canteen at their school. Congratulations 4D!

The 2010-2011 competition was for students of Utrecht Stedelijk Gymnasium where the four 4th year English classes competed to see whose class could develop the best fundraising proposal to help the students in Sri Lanka. Rotary Club Utrecht International hopes to be able to expand the competition to include more schools and raise more money in future years.

Congratulations Eva!

To win School4SriLanka students have to plan, write, develop and present their original, creative and viable ideas to their class. The best proposal will be decided by student vote to represent their class. The students are responsible for the whole process, including raising funds from the chosen proposal within each class, challenging and empowering them to make a difference in their world.
